“Even When Your Life Is Threatened, Speak The Word Of God As Received!”
Some years back we were so flabbergasted when some people were considered as “enemies in the house.” That wasn’t strange to my people who long ago gave the name “Njongndab” – a thorn in the house!
As a matter of fact there is no reason to fear physical harm from an enemy, except he passes through your friends.
The above is proven in the life of prophet Jeremiah. God had asked him to prophesy against the city if they do not reform their ways and return to the Lord. We are told that “the priests, the prophets and all the people who heard Jeremiah speak…siezed him and said, ‘You must die!…'”
But because God was on his side, when the officials of Judah heard the words of Jeremiah, they were the ones who together with the people “said to the priests and the prophets, ‘This man should not be sentenced to death. He has spoken to us in the name of the Lord.'” As a result of this Jeremiah “was not handed over to the people to be put to death”(Jer.26:1-16&24).
The priests and prophets who wanted Jeremiah dead were those “who said, peace, peace when there was no peace.” Jeremiah by bluntly calling on the people to repentance was threatening the comfort zones of those priests and prophets, but God vindicated him.
Those who even in their own weaknesses own up to the truth of God’s word stand condemned by those of the same calling. Ironically it was the laity who believed Jeremiah and declared that he does not deserve to die.
Dear friend, do not sugarcoat the word of God because you want to please some people. Give it as it is and there are always eager ears to hear and act upon it. In the face of threats to your life own up like Jeremiah, “…I am in your hands, do with me whatever you think is good and right. Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood on yourselves and on this city…for in truth, the Lord has sent me to speak all these words in your hearing.”
Prayer: Lord, no matter the threat to my life let me speak your word undiluted. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
