“Enter Your Name In The Book Of Life!”
The song writer considers that we are going to be “only remembered for what we have done.” One of the popular expressions village people use to write on their doorposts was, “the evil that men do lives after them.”
The question is, “What legacy are you going to bequeath to the next generation?” In other words, “What are you going to be remembered for?”
We are reminded that what we have done and are still doing for which we shall be remembered for are the same things for which we are going to be judged for. We are also made to understand that the evil we do does not only live after us, they accompany us to the next world and will determine the kind of verdict that the Chief Judge will pronouce on each case.
One other important fact is that on that day rank or status will dissolve and nobody will be above the law!
Revelation gives us a picture of that day. In a revelation John “saw the dead great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books…each person was judged according to what he had done…If anyone’s name was not written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire”(Rev.20:11-15).
Remember the song, “Is your name written there, O O O? Is your name written in the book of life?”
My friend, there is a book of deeds which determine whether or not your name is entered in the book of life! For your name to be entered in the book of life you must have lived following the precepts of God.
As we await the birth of Christ we rejoice that Christmas was God’s way of cancelling our sins so that we are saved by grace alone. But we must do the works that show we appreciate and value the importance of grace in our lives!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit lead me to do works deserving of grace so that my deeds would merit my name to be in the book of life. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
