“Do Not Stop Anyone Who Calls On The Name Jesus Christ!”
A great preacher of our time, the Very Rev. Dr. Nyansako-ni-Nku blends humour and satire in his messages. Preaching at a funeral service he told the story of a young priest who died and went to hell. While in hell he was surprised to see a senior priest whom he very much respected on earth.
As he raised his voice to ask the senior priest a question, the senior priest told him, “Please lower your voice, the Bishops and Moderators are having a meeting upstairs!”
The truth is that judgment day is going to be full of surprises! The kingdom of God is an intersection of two circles one of which is the church and the other one is the secular society. The intersection includes a part of the church and part of those outside the church.
Whether we like it or not, some of us are in church but we are candidates of hell because our actions contradicts Christ. Meanwhile there are some outside the church whose places in heaven are assured because those ones do what Christ wants.
John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” I’m sure Jesus’ reply shocked them just like it shocks us. Jesus replied, “Do not stop him. No-one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us. I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward”(Mk.9:38-41).
The big lesson here dear friend is that we have no right to stop others because according to us, “they are not with us!” There is going to be a lot of surprises on that final day!
Whoever we see, doing whatever glorifies the name of Jesus Christ is worthy of our praise and not our condemnation! Leave it to the Lord to decide!
Prayer: Dear Jesus convert me so that I can appreciate even those who are not one of us, because they are not against us. Amen!
