“Dear Friend, Stand Firm In The Lord!”
We are all within the christian fold but our cravings reflects our deepest concerns. Paul considers that within the fold “many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.” The destiny of such people is destruction, “their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.”
In contrast to the above we know that “our citizenship is in heaven.”
We are pilgrim’s fully conscious that we have no abiding place on this earth.
In this “pilgrim’s progress” “We eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Being conscious of this fact “you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends!”(Phi. 3:20-4:1). Yes my friend, there is need to be firm in the Lord because the distractions, attractions and the wiles of the devil are pulling us away from the Lord in all directions!
Fix your mind on things above. Earthly things are transient. God is interested in your soul and not on vain glories! Jesus is asking you, “What shall it profit you if you gain the whole world and forfeit your soul?” Nothing in this world is worth anything for you to compromise your faith because of it!
Jesus himself while praying to his father among other things said, “While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed for destruction…”(Jn. 17:12). He didn’t pray saying how you were materially blessed by him. We need to make the world a better place than we met it, but that should not be our major concern!
So my friend, do not put your mind on earthly things because your citizenship is in heaven. Stand firm in the Lord!
Through faith you shall conquer!
Prayer: Holy Spirit strengthen my faith and turn my eyes from looking at vanities. Enable me to stand firm in my Lord Jesus Christ knowing that my citizenship is in heaven. Amen!
