“Circumcise Your Heart To The Lord!”
There are many from every tribe of the hinterlands who left for greener pastures in the cities. They went in search of the good life but ended up in a life of misery. Unfortunately, instead of evaluating their lives and making a U-turn and return home, they continue wandering aimlessly without purpose and without hope. The painful part is that loved ones at home would want them back as they are, but shame of not having achieved anything is what keeps them in hopeless suffering.
Such is the way our Father in heaven is pained with our alienation and obstinacy through sin. God wants us back! God declares, “If you will return…If you put your detestable idols out of my sight and no longer go astray; and if in a truthful, just and righteous way you swear…” This is to say there is no half measure to repentance. For repentance to be complete it must be truthful, just and righteous; not some kind of Job’s comforter lip service gibberish. God says, “Circumcise yourselves to the Lord…circumcise your hearts… or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done…”(Jer.4:1-4).
When Mary McKee got to such a state of aimless wandering she expressed her next step in song, “But I hope now I need my father’s mercy. I have sinned and I know I’ve brought disgrace. I will ask him to forgive me though I’m wrong. I’ll be so glad just to look upon his face…”
We all need such a U-turn back to the Lord! Throw away your detestable idol; whatever it is! Do not go astray any longer! Repent in a truthful, just and righteous way! Circumcise your heart, as in, “Today if you hear God’s word harden not your hearts!”
Prayer: Lord I stand before you with a contrite and repentant heart. Let your mercy rise above your justice in my case. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
