“Choose Wisely!”
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now chose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life and he will give you many years in the land…”(Dt. 30:11-20).
Life and living hinges on choices. Choices have consequences (Dt.30:11-20). A choice can be made within a split second; but the period of living the consequences is a life time.
God offers us life and prosperity, and death and destruction. God does not compel us to the right choice; that is why he has given us freewill.
You may not have noticed it yet, but we are gradually losing it all. Ancestral lands are being abandoned. It has not started now. It’s a process that begins when villages become cosmopolitan. It begins when we start uprooting ourselves as we sell ancestral land to others. We cut ourselves off the land that accompanied the blessings of God.
Those of us who buy, build and settle are equally as uprooted as those who sell. We are far away from our own ancestral lands.
There is a divine link between God’s promise and ancestral land. The moment we cut off links with ancestral land, we forfeit divine blessings.
Some of the restlessness of our souls, the chaos and confussion which characterises our societies today are perhaps because we are cut off from ancestral lands under the pretext of the search for a better life! Circumstances and time imposes on us to be away from ancestral lands, but we must remain attached for that continuous blessing to flow.
The ancestral land is not only part of the divine promise, it is as well one of the two witneeses who were called by God against us that he has set before us life and death, blessings and curses!
My friend, wherever you are and no matter how established and prosperous you may be, think about your ancestral land. There lies the root of your blessing.
Above all, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…:(Mk.12:28-34). And to complement this, be reminded that “you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.” Also, be ambitious “to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands..so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody”(I Thes.4:9-12).
Indeed, your blessings awaits you at your place of work as God blesses you through the labours of your hands.
God has given you the options and they are right in your heart. Make your choice and live the consequences!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit guide me to make the right choice for an enjoyable consequence. In Jesus’ name I have prayed. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
