“Cherish And Preserve The Word Of God!”
A work of art, no matter how perfectly done is a reproduction of the original as it is in the mind of the originator. To destroy that piece of art does not destroy the original in the mind of the conceiver.
The words of the scroll as dictated by prophet Jeremiah and written by Baruch was too bitter a pill for king Jehoiakim to swallow. Truth is bitter – especially when it is truth spoken to power!
The word of God is blunt and hurting to the ear, but never hold the messenger responsible for the content of the message. Yesterday we laid to rest a man whom many attest was “a great man!” He was great because he was a humble messenger of the gospel who is fondly remembered for saying the gospel is meant to comforted those who are discomforted and to discomfort those who are comfortable.
Even so, when we hear the discomforting words, it is not an indictment, but a call to repentance.
By burning the word of God king Jehoiakim only invited a worst punishment from God. Jeremiah dictated anew the words of God to Baruch who wrote them down, “and many similar words were added to them.”
Of Jehoiakim the Lord now said, “He will have no one to sit on the throne of David, his body will be thrown out and exposed to the heat by day and frost by night. I will punish him and his children and his attendants for their wickedness…”(Jer.36:27-32).
My friend, if there is anything to learn from, when the word of God cuts deep into the marrow, it is a call to repentance. But when we ignore the word of God we bring calamity upon ourselves and destroy our bloodlines; abd soin the remnabts of oyr descendants would start talking of “generational curse!”
Preserve the word of God and cherish it; do not destroy or ingnore it!
Weekend prayer: Thank you Lord for bringing your word to me anew. Holy Spirit help me not to harden my heart at God’s word. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
