“By God’s Grace Jesus Christ Has Tasted Death For Our Sake!”
God’s first ever command was for humankind to be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground” (Gen.128).
It seems to me that this God-given sovereignty to us is considered to mean killing the animals for food and an uncontrolled exploitation of what has to be subdued or to be ruled over!
But the last time I checked, to subdue is to “overcome, quiten or bring under control…” It is not wanton exploitation. And to rule is “to have authority or control over someone or something. It is not killing for food to the point of extinction! Little wonder that “the whole creation has been groaning…” (Rom.8:22).
There is a certain unexplainable bonding which exist between us and the domestic animals we rear and the wild ones we tame as pets. “George of the Jungle” is a depiction of how our sovereignty over the other creatures ought to be.
According to the psalmist we are a little lower than angels but God is so mindful of us. He cares for us. He has crowned us with glory and honour “and put everything under our feet”
Jesus Christ as the firstborn of creation, though a little lower than angels – like the rest of us – has now been crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone”(Heb.2:5-9).
Through death his sovereignty over all is assured and is continuing. We too, when our travelling days on this earth are done, we shall reign with him and be found worthy to judge the world (I Cor.6:2). We are God’s image; we are gods (Ps.82:6).
My friend, in this pilgrim land excercise your stewardship being conscious that a steward must give an account to the master. Be careful how you use your sovereignty over God’s other creation (creatures)!
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ that by the grace of God you tasted death for me so that I will reign with you in eternity. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
