“Blessed Assurance: The Lord Will Restore Us!”
My people say when a mother beats a child, she does not send the child outside; rather she pushes the child under the bed. These last few days we have followed the prophet Jeremiah lamenting over the desolation of Jerusalem. But he also recognized that the dissaster was the judgment of a righteous God. God is a merciful God so we continue to appeal for mercy in our prayers. That is why the lament ends with a plea, “Restore us to yourself, Lord, that we may return; renew our days as of old…”(Lam.5:21f).
Jeremiah had this confidence because God had promised the exiles: “For I will restore them to the land I gave their ancestors…”
My friend, there is hope in the midst of hopelessness! No matter the situation you are passing through, it shall come to pass! No matter where our people have fled to, our Lord through Jesus Christ is going to restore them to the land of the ancestors. He will gather them from wherever they have been dispersed to(Jer.16:14-17).
Therefore, let us not despair because God has not completed the story of our history. The present dispensation is just a sad chapter in a book with a happy ending!
Just like exiled king Jehoiachin of Judah, one day our king shall be released and given “a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon…” He will put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life eat regularly at the king’s table…”(Jer.52:31-34) until when all the remnants shall return!
Yes, no matter how bleak your situation is, turn to the Lord so that he can turn your story into a happy ending! As for all of us displaced and homeless people, as long as our “Redeemer lives” we shall one day be home again to celebrate a happy reunion in the land of our inheritance!
Prayer: Thank you Lord for the assurance of our eventual restoration. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
