“Beware Of False Teachers!” II Pt.2:1-10a).
Peter asked his readers to do well to pay attention to the words of the prophets, because “no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy had never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit “(II Pt.1:19-21).
In the same breath Peter continues, “But there were also false prophets, just as there will be false teachers among you.”
The Old Testament (OT) warns severally against false prophets. In this passage Peter equates the false prophets of the OT to the false teachers who will be among us from New Testament (NT) times up to our time.
The NT is an interpretation of the fulfilment of the OT. Its understanding requires more of teaching than prophesying. Probably the reason why Peter equates teachers to prophets.
Truth be told; false teachers seems to abound in our times than NT times. Like Peter states, “they…secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Sovereign Lord who bought them…” Sadly enough “many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.”
We come across them all over the continent of Africa. We note how in their greed these false teachers exploit the gullible with stories they have made! How on earth can we claim that it is the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to say that people are blessed when their man of God sits and farts on them! Or that people are blessed when they drink the water which the man of God has bathed in! It cannot be the Holy Spirit who says the man of God should shave women’s pubic hair in church or that the man of God should suck out evil from women’s breasts!
These practices and many more are the manifestations of the greed of false teachers who exploit the believers with these made-up stories.
Those who are ignorant and follow these shameful ways brings the way of truth into disrepute! As for the false teachers, their days are numbered. Just as God destroyed the people of old who deviated from the way of truth, so too will be the fate of today’s false teachers. They are “bringing swift destruction upon themselves!”
Therefore my friend, if you are assigned to teach, please teach sound doctrine and not cleverly made-up myths that derails the innocent and brings the way of truth into disrepute.
And you my friend, stop chasing those who promise you what only God can give you through hard work and faithfulness to the Lord.
Prayer: Lord lead me away from false teaching that brings the way of truth into disrepute. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
