“Believe in the One Sent By God!”(Jn.6:22-29).
Wisdom of African ancients say, the dog is after the chase not because it wants to catch the game for his master. The dog is after the animal for its own benefit. They also say that when you refuse to give a cricket to a child, he will say it is not even a good cricket!
In one congregation, when the president of a group was voted out, she stopped coming to the group. She did not only stop coming to the group. She convinced a few of her loyalists to boycot the group. They did!
In another congregation, when an elder was voted out of eldership, she stopped coming to church. She saw only shortcomings with the new session. Another person who was no longer chairman of the congregation criticised every action of the new chairman. He became nonchalant in regard to church commitment.
The question then is “why are you a Christian?”
The food gospel is not only limited to the prosperity gospel enhancers. The food gospelers are found in all denominations. When such people do not get what they want, they become hostile to the church. Without material comfort, some ministers of the word would resign from the pastoral ministry. This explains why materialistic ministers have highjacked the ministry and relegated Christ to the background!
When Satan put bread at the forefront to test Jesus, Jesus told him man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from God. Jesus also rejected Satan’s offer of the possessions of the world, which he promised Jesus if Jesus bowed down and worshipped him.
Today, the Lord Jesus Christ is telling us to go after the Full Gospel and not the food gospel!
“…When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, ‘Rabbi, when did you get here?’
Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?’
Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.'”
Yes, my friend; there is just one thing we must do to do the works of God: “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
Believing, trusting, and obeying are the works of God!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, guide me daily to look up to my Lord not for any benefit except submissive and obedient service. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
