“Being God’s Jordan Bridge!”(Jos. 3:12-17).
Dearly beloved, the LORD has shown us his love by letting us see the light of another day. Lord thank you for mercy and grace.
We have become used to knowing that when Christ is in your boat you will smile at the storm. But only few people have entered a mere canoe – even just for fun – talk less of making a sea journey.
The forty years of the exodus was on foot. No sooner had the exodus started, they came to the Red Sea. They had the Sea infront of them and Pharaoh and his army in hot pursuit behind them.
We are used to explaining a tight situation as being “between the devil and the deep blue sea.” For the exodus children they were “between Pharaoh and the deep Red Sea!”
God rescued them by separating the waters for them to cross the Sea and by drowning Pharaoh and his army.
Years after when they were about to enter the promised land, they had the Jordan in front of them and the armies of neighbouring countries around them. God again entered the Jordan and stood on firm ground until all his children had crossed the Jordan. If God is your trekking companion you do not need any bridge. When God treks with you, smile at the seas and rivers!
Yesterday we were told “consecrate yourselves” for the LORD’s expected miracle. As the Israelites broke camp the next day, the priests who were carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. The Jordan was at flood time during the season, “Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing…”
You know what? Those priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD “stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.”
God performed a miracle at the risks of the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD. If those priests had been scared of drowning they wouldn’t have dared such a task. They had faith in the LORD whom they served.
Let us be introspective and ask ourselves: Am I a parent who in dangerous situations will risk my life to save my family and relatives? Am I a leader who seek the comfort of my people rather than mine? Am I a clergy who in times of war prefer my comfort zone and care less about the fate of my Christians? Do I take risk for the sake of others? If not, why not?”
My friend, through the ark of the covenant of the LORD, he planted himself on firm ground in the Jordan till all Israelites crossed and were out of harm’s way. But he did this through the courage and resilience of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
Even today, the LORD needs you to be the agent through whom he demonstrates his miraculous power. Make yourself available for God in Christ to use you to save his people!
Weekend prayer: LORD, here I am, give me the courage and resilience in service that brings life and hope to others. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
