“Be Rooted And Built Up In Christ!”
Esoteric fraternities, “Odeshi” power, “mungang”, “otomokwo”, manipulative rings, “mallams” and principalities and powers do exist. I remember when I was a “Mutengene boy” before the Lord called me into his service. With my love for reading, I once read an advertisement about an esoteric fraternity. I applied, went down to the post office in Tiko to post it. The post office person at the stamp desk was an elderly and God-fearing man. When he took the letter to place the stamp on it he was embarrassed by the address on it. He asked me what prompted me to want to seek membership into such a fraternity? He refused to sell the stamp. He tore the letter and advised me to go away and work earnestly and God would bless me. Today I know he was sent by God to save me because God was preserving me for his service.
It sinks deep into my heart when I read from Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations”(1:5). If it were not so how could it be that I entered the seminary two years after my baptism? Or that a village carpenter without college education should be writing this message for you? Surely it is the Lord’s doing!
I have also come to know and believe without any iota of doubt that “…in Christ all the fullness of Deity lives in bodily form, and I have been given fullness in Christ, who is the Head over every power and authority”
Having known this I am often embarrassed that some Christians and even pastors still seek other sources of power so as to become powerful men and women of God! Some use magic rings, some have “mallams,” some join occultic groups etc.
My friend, there is no other power or authority that is not inferior to the fullness of Deity that lives in Christ in bodily form. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness.”
As a further advise Paul states, “See to it that no-one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ”(Col. 2:3-10).
Oh yes, like me let your affirmation be that “…on Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand…!” All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. Let “no-one deceive you by high sounding arguments!” Remain rooted in Christ and you will see the wonders of his grace! I know it, I’ve tasted it and I’m basking in its glory! What about you?
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
