“Be Humble…!”
It’s been said that each person likes to talk much on the subject they know best. And to some people their best subject is themselves. Engaging in a conversation with such a person you soon get bored with “I”, “My”, “Me”, etc.
Sometimes we are privileged to rub shoulders with those of high status like kings and heads of states. Don’t let such rare opportunities get into your head so that you become drunk with pride as with wine.
Proverbs gives us this simple direct piece of advice, “Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among great men; it is better for him to say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than for him to humiliate you before a nobleman”(25:6-7)
In later days Jesus re-echoed this in what was our teaching yesterday! Wgen invited to a feast, “Do not take the place of honour, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your seat.’ Then you will be humiliated, and you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honoured in the presence of all your fellow guests.” Jesus ended by saying, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted”(Lk. 14:7-11).
My friend, the long and short of it all is that, “Wo/Man know thyself!” Do not think too highly of yourself. Be Humble, but don’t be a coward and call it humility!
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the King of Kings, but he exhibited humility before his Father and so God exalted him. Those who follow him must exhibit the same humility before humanity and God and wait for God to exalt them.
God is the one who raises from grass to grace but he can also bring down from grace to disgrace; so stay humble before his presence! God knows you by name and when you are down there he will say, “Come up here!”
Prayer: Father give me the spirit of humility in my daily walk of faith in Jesus’ name! Amen!
Have a blessed day and welcome to a new working week! Peace be with you!
