“Be An Obedient And Responsible Steward!”
The climax of creation was on day six. On this day “the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living being.” Man was given stewardship of the earth. He was placed “in the garden of Eden to work and take care…”
Man was given the freedom to eat from any tree except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which if eaten was to bring death (Gen.2:4-17).
We all know what happened after and is happening even today.
The uniqueness of man among other creatures is not just that he was created in the image of God or that God put his breath in man. We are equally unique in that while all the creatures were created out of nothing, man was formed out of matter – “the dust of the ground.”
We are unique also in that we are God’s stewards over the other creatures. We are charged to rule over the sea, land and air creatures and to work and take care of all vegetation.
All of creation is groaning because we have failed in our stewardship responsibilities. Today we suffer climate change and draught as water is fast becoming a scarce resource.
We must of necessity be reminded of our stewardship responsibilities. A steward is a caretaker and is accountable to the master. Whatever we do with the other creatures at our disposal we must always remember that we shall give an account to God on our stewardship. By the way, any abuse or misuse of any of the other creatures is a disservice to our own very selves.
Weekend prayer: Lord thank you for making me a ruler over the works of your hands(Ps.8:5-8). Holy Spirit help me to be a responsible steward. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
