“Be A Griot For God…!”
A Griot “is a member of a class of travelling poets, musicians, and storytellers who maintain a tradition of oral history in parts of West Africa.” Modern day griots have deviated from the above definition and have devoted their time to praise singing of the sacral ruler of their respective communities.
Praise singing when it is not misplaced is acceptable even in biblical times. Luke tells us that “…the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!'”
If the griots can shower praises on human beings how much more must we sing the praises of God as a response to the marvellous things he has done in our lives! Each time you are caught up in sleep and everyday you see the light of a new day are all miracles from God for which you should praise him.
The psalmist says, “let everything that breathes praise the Lord,” and that we should use all instruments at our disposal to praise God. He has done marvellous things and is worthy of our praises.
Even when enemies of the gospel challenge our praise of God and rebuke us, Jesus Christ says even if we stop, “…the stones will cry out”(Lk. 19:37-40).
My friend, you may be facing some troubling times but don’t stop praising God! By the way, without troubling times you may never see the reason why you should praise God. Sing praises to the Lord Most High at all times because “when you sing, you pray double!”
Sing songs which praise the mighty deeds of God and not only songs that seek his favour and presence! Be a griot for God, he has done marvellous things for us!
Prayer: Holy Spirit inspire me to daily praise the miraculous works of the Lord, especially for saving me through the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
