“Avoid Evil And Practice Indiscriminate Love!”
“Created in God’s image” includes all humanbeings, irrespective of race, colour or social status. One way by which God demonstrates this eqaulity of all humanity is that all blood is red, and we are all born and we shall all die.
Nobody is more human than the other! Unfortunately we tend to capitalise on life’s disequilibrium because as we argue, “all fingers do not have the same length.” While it is not possible for a classless society, some do not become less human than others. “…the Lord Almighty said, ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.” Evil is not a preserve of a particular class. So the Lord talks of “one another” and “each other!” Besides, widows and fatherless children come from both high and low classes.
Sadly enough, over the generations humanity tends to ignore these truths, despite constant reminders through the prophets.
The Lord Almighty is angry. When he called us to order we did listen, now we are calling and he is not listening!
Cameroonians, this is not an archaic text for an old Jewish people. We are living the realities of it now! We have been scsttered like a whirlwind and we have become strangers; even in our own lands! The difference between a “Refugee” and an “Internally Displaced Person” is location! They all share the same fate!
Move around our villages and you would think the prophet was foretelling our situation. “The land they left behind them was so desolate that no-one travelled through them. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate” (Zec.7:8-14)).
My friend, the situation is not without a remedy. In God there is hope! If only we bring down our egos and “administer true justice; show nercy and compassion to one another;” if we do not oppress the widow and the fatherless, above all, if we “do not plot evil against each other,” then the Lord will restore us!
The emphasis for us to “administer TRUE justice” presupposes that we have been administering false justice! Be honest to yourself today and do it God’s way because the world we long to transform is represented in our backyards! Avoid evil and practice indiscriminate love!
Prayer: Lord we confess that we deserve our condition. Forgive us and restore us for your name’s sake. Amen!
