“Arm Yourself With The Same Attitude Of Suffering In The Body…!”(I Pt.4:1-6).
The emphasis of “Joy to the world…” at Christmas more often than not multiply the errors of comfortable Christianity, which robs us of intentional repentance and keeps us comfortable in sin.
Advent season, preparing for Christmastide is a time of “remembering” that “Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit”(I Pt.3:18).
When we remember that “he suffered ‘in his body’,” we should arm ourselves “with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in the body is done with sin.”
The result is that it is no longer about “the spirit is willing but the flesh is not,” rather, the spirit is willing and the flesh is willing.
When the flesh is in tandem with the spirit, we no longer live the rest of our earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
No gain was ever derived from living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatory!
To be genuinely immersed in the “joy to the world…” of Christmastime, one should turn away from such flood of dissipation to the chagrin of those who are still immersed in the world. The old companies you use to keep should wonder what has come over you and heap insults on you.
My friend, each head stands on its own shoulder. In the same way, as we await his coming, each one of us “will have to give an account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”
Dear friend, does this hard reality of what accompanies Christmas dampen your anticipated Christmas joy? Then work on it and improve on it before the Judge arrives and the baton is hit for the court to rise!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me to arm myself with the same attitude of Christ to suffer in the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
