“Are You On The Side Of Truth?”(Jn.18:33-38).
Yesterday we commemorated the ascension into heaven of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Today we are presented with him before Pilate. Pilate asked him whether he was the king of the Jews. Inter alia Jesus responded:“My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
Indeed, a king without a kingdom has no voice in a gathering of kings. A king is a king because he has a kingdom.
Jesus’ answer to Pilate justifies his ascension which we have just commemorated. He is now in his kingdom in heaven where he oversees all that is in heaven and on earth.
Here is one indisputable legacy which the Lord has bequeathed to us: he told Pilate, “You say I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came to the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
No magistrate, no judge and no bench of jury has any basis for a charge against anyone who is on the side of truth – except such a magistrate, judge or bench of jury has been corrupted by a bribe!
The world is dominated by falsehood where might, power and wealth is right even when it is blatantly wrong!
The ascended Lord Jesus Christ is telling us who claim to be his disciples that only those who are on the side of truth listens to him.
Question: Are you on the side of truth?
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit guide me to walk the path of righteousness and truth. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
