“Alive In Christ!”(Col.2:13-15).
We continue to reflect on the importance and benefits of the resurrection for us. We were once fallen humanity in the grip of sin, then “God made us alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations that were against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.” By so doing, God “disarmed the powers and authorities” and made a “public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
A written code is a certificate which acknowledges a debt, written by the debtor himself. Antonio would have lost his life to Shylock because of such a written code, until Portia intevened. At the end of the day Shylock did not only forfeit the debt Antonio owed him, but lost even his wealth as well.
It is in the same way that we were in the grip of Satan and his minions until God cancelled the certificate we had signed and which was in the keeping of Satan.
Through the crucifixion of Jesus our sins were nailed to the cross and all our sins were forgiven. Principalities and powers have been disarmed and they have been publicly ridiculed.
We are overcomers! We are able to stand against all forms of asceticism, angel worship, ceremonialism, depreciation of Christ, secret knowledge and reliance on human wisdom and tradition. Christ is enough for us, and absolute dependence on him gives us complete control over the forces of darkness and evil.
Prayer: Holy Spirit inspire me to stand firm on Christ the solid rock and to glorify him for what he has done for me. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
