“A Legacy Of Prayer!”(Jn.16:23b – 28).
“Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
It is evident that Jesus, the risen Lord, said the above words prior to his ascension, which we just commemorated.
Some years back, the gospel music group, Voice of the Cross” sang a song, “What manner of man is Jesus, hallelujah…”
Indeed, humans that we are cannot fully understand Jesus’ humanity. That is why, for me, when I get to the crossroad of faith where I seem not to understand anything any longer, I anchor with Dora Greenwell that “I am not skilled to understand what God hath willed…I only know at His right hand stands one who is my Savior…”
For forty days after his resurrection, Jesus went about showing himself to his disciples. On the fortieth day, he went up to heaven to be with the Father. He went back home!
A major problem in biblical interpretation that leads to misinterpretation is the failure to separate figures of speech from plain language. We have a clarification from Jesus himself – that is, if John is being honest that these were Jesus’ words. Jesus told the disciples that he had been speaking to them figuratively, but in future time, he will use plain language.
In plain language, Jesus is introducing us to this moment of the priesthood of all believers.” African wisdom says that when you wash your hands clean, you can dine with kings. Jesus intimates that if we have washed our hands clean, we can ask anything from the Father in his name, and the father will give us and make our joy complete.
The risen and ascended Lord Jesus Christ has given us direct access to God the Father. We are free to channel our prayers to God as the Holy Spirit transmits.
Terms and conditions apply in any two party engagement. That is how it is with us when we pray to the Father. God hears and answers our prayers because he loves us since we have loved Jesus and believed that he came from God.
Yes, my friend, God is available to answer your prayers on the condition that you love Christ and believe that he came from God!
The Lord Jesus Christ has bequeathed to us a legacy of prayer with direct access to the Father. Therefore, pray without ceasing but allow the outcome with God in Christ.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, help realign me in my moments of unbelief. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week!
