“Devote Yourself To Doing What Is Good As Your Response To God’s Grace!”
“Every saint has a dirty past” until grace found him/her out. That’s true because “at one time we too were foolish, disobedient…We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that, having been justified by grace, we might become heirs…”(Ti. 3:1-8).
The emphasis on mercy and grace through Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit shouldn’t keep us in false assurance. Such false confidence leads to complacency which undermines the works of mercy and grace.
When the saved become complacent, grace is abused. It is in recognition of this that David cried out, “Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me”(Ps. 51:11-12).
Rebirth and renewal leads to trust in God. Those who trust in God devote themselves in doing what is good” and “show humility towards all men.” Take note it doesn’t limit the scope of where to do good. It does not also say, “show humility towards ‘some men’; it says, “all men!”
Consider it this way: Jesus Christ the Son of God, the King of Kings sacrificed his life for the least and the lowest whom we are and all he requires of you and I is to do what is good! Imagine the kind of world we would have if we devote ourselves to doing what is good!
My friend, God’s mercy and grace has brought you safely to the end of a calendar year, as you prepare to enter a new year let your one resolution be to devote yourself to doing what is good! Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
