“The Message Of Salvation Is Our Message!”(Acts 23:26-39).
“Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent…”
A biased African reading the above may focus on the half verse: “fellow children of Abraham…” Such bias reading leads to eclectic interpretations arguing that Christianity on the continent is an opium of brainwashing. On the contrary, the salvation story is our story! “God-fearing Gentiles” are part of the story’s recipients.
The people who would have been privileged to benefit first from the message “did not recognise Jesus.” They had myopic faith. When they condemned Jesus, they only helped to fulfil the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath.”
They killed him, but God raised him on the third day, and he appeared to those who became the first witnesses of the resurrection and preachers of the good news.
Dear friend, we are part of the story and on that story we depend! Let me parody Paul to emphasise the point: “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus, the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him, everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses” or any ‘Kontry fashion!’
By justification, sins are forgiven, and righteousness merited.
Paul, who is giving this testimony, did not see the physical Jesus, but he had an encounter with the Christ, and that made him a diehard evangelist. We may be far removed from Paul by time and space, but faith does not consider time and space.
We, too, proclaim with confidence that which we have seen with the eyes of faith. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, strengthen our faith daily to believe in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
