“Blessed For Obedience!”(Gen.22:15-19).
The test to see if Abraham will sacrifice Isaac was a test of obedience. We often expect more from God than we are willing to give him. The LORD does not expect much from us. All he wants from us is obedience.
Abraham showed his obedience by getting Isaac ready for sacrifice as the LORD had requested. Then the LORD intervened because it was only a test. Laterly the LORD told Abraham, “…’I swear by myself that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son (let us note here that “only son” means Isaac was the legitimate heir. Ishmael was Abraham’s first son), I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me…'”
O yes; the LORD does delight in offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying him. “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams”(I Sam.15:22).
Obedience opens the LORD’S doors of blessings not only to us but to our offsprings. Obedience does not only cause the LORD to bless us, he protects us and gives us possession of the belongings of our enemies.
Besides, Isaac is a prototype of Christ. Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice Isaac is a foreshadowing of how the LORD willingly offered his Son as a ransom for fallen humanity.
The LORD God made such a sacrifice for us, and all he wants from us is obedience! That’s not a tall order!
Dear friend, as we enter each new day of life, we should allow the Spirit to reveal to us what the LORD wants us to do. And when he has told us what the LORD wants let us obey; for obedience is better than sacrifice!
Prayer: Holy Spirit reveal to me what the LORD wants me to do and prompt me to obey. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
