“The True Light!”(Jn.1:5-9).
Lord Jesus Christ, as I step forth into the world today, be a lamp to my feet and a light on my path!
The emphasis on swearing on the Bible or the Quran before entering the witness box is baffling. Baffling because if that swearing is intended to prompt witnesses to tell the truth, it is all a fiasco. Those who have sold their consciences to the devil do not think that a lie after swearing on the Bible means anything.
Many have been framed with trumped-up charges, false witnesses brought in who swear to say nothing but the truth, yet having well prepared and rehearsed lies to be listened to by judges who were in foreknowledge of the potential lies. Of course, you have to give a dog a bad name if you have made up your mind to hang it!
In his last days, Jesus was framed, and false witnesses came with false testimonies that were easily accepted since the whole thing was a set-up.
Going down memory lane, we are reminded that even if his death was precipitated through false witnesses, his birth was foretold by a truthful witness: “There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John did not claim for himself what did not belong to him. John would have swelled his ego and pride from the honour he was receiving and positioned himself as the light. The next thing would have been to want to eliminate the true light. Our generation would have done that without compunction.
“John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light”(Jn.5:35).
Dear friend, the light is shining in our darkness, and no matter the degree of darkness emanating from the hearts of humans, that darkness can’t overcome the light.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the light to a world of sin and evil. The forces of evil may be everywhere; seemingly invincible, but Christ will triumph over evil and sin!
Let us embrace the light to overcome any darkness that is resistant to the light of the gospel by walking in the light and expressing our love of the light by intentional flight from the deeds of darkness!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to remain in the light in obedience to the will of God. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you! Merry Christmas and a fulfilling New Year!
