“To God Be The Glory Through Jesus Christ!”(Rom.16:25-27).
For a new day, LORD, I can not thank you enough.
“Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith— to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.”
This is probably an old hymn of praise directed to God. African indigenous priests often say, “The gods are wise.” Paul addresses the Living God as “The only wise God.”
The LORD does not compare with any other deity. What he had hidden in the past was revealed through the prophetic writings culminating in Christ the final revelation of God.
Unlike in the past, when the Jews considered God to be their private possession, the gospel of Christ was “so that all the Gentiles might come to obedience that comes from faith…”
No people own God, and that makes the difference. Other deities are either family or tribal; but the LORD God is a universal God. He is for the Gentiles as much as he is for the Jews through whom – like the handle of a basket he held to lift up the basket.
We note that obedience does not come by reason. Obedience comes by faith. Faith defies reasoning and logic – even though faith seeks understanding by the use of reasoning.
When we board a plane to a place we have never been before, we still trust that the pilot will land us safely at our destination. Even when we have made several flights, we still (un)consciously follow the flight instructions before we are airborne. By faith, we obey the safety precautions so that we do not jeopardise our safety. Back in the days in South Africa, a few times, I took internal flights where I was the only black person among about fifty passengers. The first time I noticed this, I wondered to myself what chances of survival were there for me if the majority of them were racists. But then, faith in the one I trust gave me courage and assurance. Where faith leads, we obey. Our times are in God’s hand, but he wants us to pray for discernment
Our lives are patterned by the only wise God who directs our pilgrim paths. To him alone be the glory.
Prayer: Guide me O thou great Jehovah. I’m a pilgrim through this barren land. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Merry Christmas and a fulfilling New Year!
