“In Honor Of Two Blessed Women!”
For this new day, we thank you, LORD!
The sages from the Grassfields(Graffi) say ,“You do not know the queen who will give birth to the next king.” What is insinuated is that treat all the queens with respect.
God is not a respecter of persons. He takes from grass and lifts to grace. Two persons whose names have resounded all over the world were born by mothers who, by human judgment, were of low pedigree. Elizabeth, the mother of John, was already tagged, “barren,” before she gave birth to John the Baptist. Mary was an ordinary village girl who God chose to be the mother of the Messiah.
I can imagine Elizabeth being taunted by other women, wondering whether she was carrying water in her womb and calling it pregnancy! I can imagine the shame and disgrace on Mary and her family because she became pregnant before her wedding!
No matter how visionary, creative, or imaginative we can be, we can never see beyond our human limitations. God alone sees the end from the beginning.
At the annunciation, Mary replied the angel, “I am the LORD’S servant. May it be to me as you have said”(Lk.1:38). It was immediately after this annunciation that Mary left to visit her relative Elizabeth.
In their conversation concerning Divine intervention in their lives, Elizabeth told Mary, “Blessed is she who has believed that what the LORD has said to her will be accomplished.”
My friend, the LORD, promises all of us. It’s just that we are too busy worrying over nothing while failing to note the promise. But those who, like Mary, submit to divine direction and believe that the LORD will fulfil his promises, it surely comes to pass.
Another lesson we learn from these two blessed women is their humility. Mary is promised to become the mother of the Son of God. She goes to visit the mother of the messenger who will prepare the way for her son’s ministry. On her part, Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Spirit as she exclaims, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear.” Without knowing the angel’s visitation to Mary, she nevertheless called Mary “the mother of my Lord,” and she considered herself favoured by Mary’s visit.
We believe the promises of God only through submissive obedience or obedient submission. May you be favoured as you tap from the blessing of Mary!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, enforce daily my resolve to stand on the promises of God. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you! Merry Christmas and a fulfilling New Year in advance!
