“The Word Of God: Food For The Soul!”(Ez.2:8-3:11).
Dear LORD, as I step out today, “Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me am undivided heart, that I may fear your name”(Ps.86:11).
My experience as a preacher is that the Holy Spirit inspires God’s words to come out of the preacher; such that the preacher sometimes wonders and asks self, “Did I actually say this?”
Of course, you did! It came out of your mouth, but it was the Holy Spirit speaking through you!
The word of God is like food to the messenger of that same word.
The LORD feeds the messenger with his word – usually “words of lament and mourning and woe.” The LORD gives those words so that the messenger is fed with what he has to feed others with.
When the disciples brought some food for Jesus to eat, he told them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about. My food is to do the work of him who sent me and to finish his work…”(Jn.4:32ff).
It was in that sense that Ezekiel was given a scroll to eat and fill his stomach.
The underlying reason that God calls and equips messengers is LOVE!(Jn.3:16). Sin keeps overwhelming his people; and they are not willing to listen to him,
they are hardened and obstinate. But to the messengers, the LORD gives this assurance: “I will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint. Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a rebellious house.”
The message through Ezekiel to the exile in a sentence summary is, “Repent, turn away from your sins to avert God’s wrath!” It was the same message of other prophets up to John the Baptist, the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and continued by the apostles, extending to our generation.
We are at the brink of a dangerous precipice. We either listen to prophetic voices and avert calamity, or we turn a deaf ear and dig our own graves.
The prophets have a duty and responsibility to tell you what the LORD says, “whether they listen or fail to listen.”
My friend, God’s love for us is unbounded. That is why he keeps requesting us to make a U-turn before he unleashes his anger against us.
We are one another’s keeper – whether we like it or not. “Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” Rather, “If someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.” Keep in mind that you too can be tempted. We learn to fulfil the law of Christ by carrying each other’s burdens. “Let us not become weary of doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers”(Gal.5:26-6:10).
Dear friend, Jesus asks us to pray that the LORD should send more workers to gather the harvest. There is no better way to have more workers than being one another’s keeper! When we watch each other’s back, we can easily escape the wiles of temptation.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit, prompt us not to harden our hearts when we hear God’s voice. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
