“Return To Christ, The Shepherd And Overseer Of Your Life!”(I Pt.2:21-25)
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’ When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. ‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.’ For ‘you were like sheep going astray,’ but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
I am inspired to think that Will L. Thompson was inspired partially by the above text to write the song,
“The Sinner And The Song.”
“A sinner was wand’ring at eventide,
His tempter was watching close by at his side,
In his heart raged a battle for right against wrong.
But hark! from the church he hears a sweet song:
Jesus, Lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly.
He stopped and listened to ev’ry sweet chord,
He remembered the time he once loved the Lord,
Come on! says the tempter come on with the throng,
But hark! from the church again swells the song!
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
O tempter, depart, I have served thee too long;
I fly to the Savior, He dwells in that song;
O, Lord, can it be that a sinner like me
May find a sweet refuge by coming to Thee?
Other refuge have I none;
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee:
I come, Lord, I come,
Thou’lt forgive the dark past;
And Oh receive my soul at last!”
My friend, may we be inspired by the text and the song and cling to the Shepherd and Overseer of our lives!
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for paying the debt I owed and was not able to pay. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
