“Set Your Hope On The Grace To Be Given You When Jesus Christ Is Revealed!”(I Pt.1:13-21).
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed…”
The word “therefore” is used to show that something happens because of something else. In the case of our text above we would consider the previous four verses as the reason for the “therefore” of our text.
Concerning salvation, we are privileged beneficiaries of the grace that prophets of old had longed to see realised in their own days. But it didn’t happen. “Even angels long to look into these things.”(I Pt.1:10-12).
Now that we are the people to benefit this grace, we should prepare our minds for action. This preparation includes being self-controlled.
Hope gives us confidence that our tomorrow will be better than today. But there are many things that our wandering minds hope for. Peter however asks us to “set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.”
Our wandering minds often base on evil desires, but as “obedient children” we should no longer conform to such evil desires.
We are called to a life of holiness because he who called us is holy, and without holiness we cannot see the Father.
God is a judge who will judge each person’s work impartially, we should live in reverent fear, knowing that we are strangers who have been redeemed by the precious, priceless blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear friend, the only thing we can do to compensate for the priceless sacrifice of Christ is to strive to be holy and to build our hopes on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
Prayer: LORD, I have set my hope fully on the grace revealed in Jesus Christ. Help me to daily strive for holiness. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
