“See How Much The Father Has Loved Us!”(I Jn.3:1-3)
In his pain and suffering, and the frustrations from the taunts of his friends in the name of comfort, Job had this conviction: “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, in my flesh I will see God. I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another…”(Job 19:25-27).
In the same line like Job, John says even though we are now God’s children, “it is not yet clear what we shall become. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he really is.”
Based on John’s words any postulations concerning what we shall become would be speculative. But if we are to be like Christ when he appears it means we are going to be spirits. Only spirits appear and disappear in the manner which Jesus did after his resurrection.
That notwithstanding, what we shall become should not become a worrisome concern in our physical life. What is important is what we are now or what we ought to be. To be like Christ when he comes and to see him as he really is is a hope. And “Hope does not dissappoint us!”
If we have this hope in Christ, “we must keep ourselves pure, just as Christ is pure.” This is to say we should make an effort to live sin-free lives and to love one another in the same way Christ showed his love for us with his life’s blood.“See how much the Father has loved us! His love is so great that we are called God’s children.”
Dear friend, what an honour to be so privileged by God’s love! Pass it on as we wait to become what we would become when we see shall see Christ as he really is.
Weekend prayer: Thank you LORD for making us your children. Holy Spirit help us to complement our hope in Christ by living pure lives, just as Christ is pure. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
