“Clothe Yourself With The Lord Jesus Christ!”(Rom.13:11-14).
“Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
Thomas Carlyle said, “thought is the parent of the deed.” We act upon our thoughts.
We have noted quite often that Christian conversion is about turning all that we are or have been towards Jesus Christ. To the majority of us conversion is not an automatic U-turn. It is a long winding process, we may know when it begins, but difficult to know when it ends.
Perhaps true conversion is when our thoughts have become fully directed towards the Lord Jesus Christ. “Therefore, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praise worthy – think about such things”(Phi.4:8).
The question dear friend is, “What are your thoughts?” Proverbs warns us not to use words to conceal our thoughts. “For as a man thinketh, so he is”(Prov.23:7). Based on this is James Allen’s book, “As A Man Thinketh,” The book has some insightful quotes. “A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.” “A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses.” “A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life.”
Each night we go to bed having plans for the next day. We get up each morning eager to make the best of the day. But as it is, some people who went to bed in good health never see the light of another day. And some in readiness to meet the day’s challenges die on that same day.
It has happened to many people that you know. It may be your turn any time. You are not different, you are not better off than them. It is just that for the moment God’s grace is sufficient for you.
Each day humbles us and prompts us to be determined to do differently something that is beneficial to humanity and which is a fulfilment of the requirements of God for those living in days of grace.
Living in days of grace is to acknowledge that the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ has dispelled the darkness of night where we take delight in mundane carnality. We are aware Christ’s imminent second coming which should not take us by surprise because we are expecting it.
Expectation requires preparation and readiness. So therefore, “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
Summarily, live a life worthy of prepared expectation of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Holy Spirit guide my thoughts to be centered on the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
