“Prayer Of Faith Heals!”(Jam.5:13-16).
Way back in 1997 I was to undergo an operation to correct my spinal cord. We did all the required lab tests and x-ray, and I was waiting the the neurosurgeon who was out of tbe country at the time. In the meantime some of my Christians formed a prayer group prayed for me incessantly. Twenty-five years after I have not undergone that operation.
I recall the numerous letters and words of thanks we have received from Christians for healing prayers. We cannot underestimate the power faith prayer.
We should however note that not all sicknesses respond to faith prayers, in the same way that despite all medical attention, some sicknesses do not respond to treatment.
In as much as during his earthly ministry our Lord healed many sicknesses, he did not heal all the sick people of his time. He even said so himself when he intimated that “…there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed – only Naaman the Syrian “(Lk.4:27).
What we are saying is that faith prayer heals, but when it doesn’t happen, it is not lack of faith. James says “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
But since we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, we are put right only through grace.
When somebody is sick “he should call the elders of his church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.”
But there is a preparatory stage that helps to purify us; which is, “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
Weekend prayer: LORD we confess that we have sinned against you and against fellow brethren. Forgive us, hear our prayers and heal us in the name of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
