“Saved To Show Much Love To Christ!”(Lk.7:36-50).
“When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house…When the Pharisee saw this, he said to himself, ‘If this man were a prophet, he could have known who is touching him and what kind of woman she is – that she is a sinner.'”
We take special note that the woman’s sinful life was in the past. She “had lived a sinful life,” it does not say she “was living a sinful life.” But for the Pharisee, “she is a sinner.” The Pharisee considered himself to be sin-free; yet it is possible that he had been one of the woman’s customers. Or he may have been lusting for her! We are often comfortable exposing the sins of others because it may help to hide ours.
You see, the hen told its chicks, *”When a hen scatters the ground with its toes foraging for food, it never looks back on what has gone behind. It looks ahead because good things are infront. Whatever is past is gone.” The best is yet to come, but one has to make it happen.
Society has a way of holding us back. People keep reminding us of our past; as if life is stagnant. When we grow we outgrow our human foibles; unless like the dog we decide to go back to our vomits.
The word of God is intended to transform lives so that our past should no longer hold us hostage. They can tag your past to your present, but prove to them that your growth is not retarded. We grow physically and also mature in character and attitude.
While the Pharisee defines your present by your past, let your loving action of faith lead you to the feet of the saving Lord Jesus Christ.
Whoever comes face to face with God’s amazing grace and has faith in Jesus Christ receives forgiveness and can now enjoy the peace of God which passes human understanding. This woman who must have listened to the Lord’s preaching responded in faith and poured so much love on Jesus. The jar of perfume which she used on Jesus was the one she had probably been using for her trade. *She had received free grace and she paid back with the best she could afford: she used her tears as water, her hair for a towel and the perfume. What about you? What is your best that you have offered for your free grace?*
We should stop judging people based on their past. People change for better when they encounter grace.
The Lord Jesus Christ is ready to pronounce on you that, “Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” We are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from ourselves, but through faith, which is a gift of God and not through works(Eph.2:8).
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for the assurance that through faith, grace has found me. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
