“As We Approach The Lent Season…!”(Mk.9:30-32).
Wednesday 02/03/2022 will be Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent season. Lent is a period of forty days that gives way to Easter Sunday.
During Lent we reflect on the betrayal, shame, humiliation and sufferings of our Lord Jesus Christ, and his torturous death.
During this season we make every effort to give up on many things including, our pleasures, lifestyles and also giving to charity.
As a build-up to Ash Wednesday our lectionary provides us today with the words of Jesus to his disciples: “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” We are told that the disciples “did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.”
As we embark on the Lenten journey we should be reminded that the betrayer was from within. He was one of the Twelve. He was even a powerful member of the Executive. He was the treasurer of the group.
Lent season is like standing before a big mirror studying all the features of your body and being nauseated by marks and spots, and countenances that are unhealthy. Working on them to eliminate them. More than a mirror, it is an X-ray machine revealing all that lies within…
Questions to ponder upon as we step into the Season of Lent:

  1. Am I the betrayer? 2. Am I among those to whom he will be handed and who will be responsible for his death? Am I among those who do not understand but are afraid to ask? And why am I afraid to ask?
Prayer of the week: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for accepting betrayal, torture and death for my sake. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
    Rev. Babila Fochang.
