“Be Doers Of The Word…!”(Ez.33:30-33).
The prophet Ezekiel prophesied to the Jews who were in the Babylonian captivity. He too was an exilee from a priestly family. God told him, “…your countrymen are talking together about you…saying to each other, ‘Come and hear the message that has come from the Lord.’ My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you and listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain…”
The problem here is not whether the people who listen to the word of God are exiles, IDPs or free citizens. The pain of God here is that we come regularly to listen to his word but do not put them into practice. We express devotion with our mouths but our hearts are greedy for “unjust gain!”
It is not an aberration to say Christianity is a lifestyle. Faith may come by hearing, but faith expresses itself through action. Children of God cannot express themselves through lip service without commensurate action that complements the word.
When we say “Today if you hear God’s voice harden not your hearts,” it is not just by repeating what we heard thereafter, it is by doing what is expected of what was said and which we heard.
Let us do what the word says so that there won’t be any regrets in later days.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to put into practice the word of God which I hear or read. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
