“Hear The Word Of The Son And Believe In The Father!”
Yesterday we reflected on Jesus’ words to the Sadducees, “You are in error because you do not know Scriptures or the power of God.” It is for this very reason that we have what we call “theology” also theological institutions. Theology seeks always to know the Scriptures and the power of God. This is so because you will always have Sadducees who do not know Scriptures and the power of God.
In the early years of the the church there was Arian who contended that Jesus was more than human but not fully divine. This teaching became known as Arianism. The Arian controversy was the main topic of discussion at the ecumenical council of Nicea in AD 325.
The council condemned Arianism and also formulated the Christological doctrine that God the Son and God the Father are of the “same substance” (homoousios), not “similar substance”(homoiousios) according to Arian heresy.
The debates continue even today because this generation also harbours seeds of Arianism; sometimes without knowing the error. Jesus reminds us, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees the Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.” And to our amazement the Father will show the Son greater things. And “just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.”
To help us escape the error of Arianism Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”
Therefore, if we must cross from death to life we must hear the word of Christ and believe in the One who sent him.
Prayer: Lord I believe in the One who sent you because your word is truth and life. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
