“Clay In The Hands Of The Potter! (Is.45:9-12&18)
Some few years ago we visited Prespot in Bamessing. At the pottery section the potter demonstrated to us how clay objects were made. He used one lump of clay to make one thing, then he unmade it and used the same clay to make something else.
We were so impressed with his dexterity and skills. We asked some questions for clarification, but the poor lump of clay was at the mercy of the potter without complaining.
We are like clay in the potter’s (God’s) hands. He keeps changing our lives until he has the shape that he desires. The clay passes through a painful process of making and hardening of the finished object by fire. Yet it does not complain. The potter keeps making, unmaking and remaking that lump of clay because he wants the best as a finished product.
God holds our lives in his hands and he is always in the process of making, unmaking and remaking us into what he wants us to be.
Who are we to complain when tough times come? “Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’…” “Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker…”
We are limited and myopic in our limitedness. We may make plans for the future but we cannot see beyond tomorrow. So when hard times come upon us, doubts sets in and we begin to question the benevolence and potency of God.
However, “concerning things to come…he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited…”
Yes, no matter how bleak the present may seem, the future is bright. Displacements and the desolation are temporary; because God did not create it to be empty.
In the same way, the desolate nature of present predicaments in your life are mere speedbrakes on the highway to a glittering future! Be confident about the future and work for it, knowing that God’s will cannot take you to where his grace will not sustain you. Planning, working and trusting in God brings the assurance that your tomorrow will be better than today.
Weekend prayer: Lord, you are the potter and I am the clay. Let me be the finished product that you desire. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
