“Do Not Abandon The Source Of Hope!” (Jer.17:12-17).
Someone has stated: “Hope is the belief things will work, especially when it seems otherwise. It helps you stay calm and peaceful when something less than desirable emerges. Hope believes you will get through it. Hope remembers the time you made it through.” “The power of faith overcomes all obstacles.”
When you are sure of what you hope for, and being certain of what you do not see, then you have faith. Otherwise your hope is a daydream – pleasant thoughts that distract your attention from present reality. Those who take weed become addicted because it makes them daydreamers, which they mistake for hope.
There is just one source from whom hope is stabilised in faith.
The prophet Jeremiah states that the Lord is the hope of Israel and “the spring of living water.” In other words, the Lord is the hope of (y)our country and the hope of you and I as individuals.
If the Lord is the spring of living water, then how refreshing it can be for those who drink from it regularly! Imagine how thirsty and parched you can be if you abandon the spring of living water!
The spring of living water is life itself. Jesus says, “whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst…” for it becomes in the person “a spring of water welling up to eternal life”(Jn.4:14).
“You have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth…”(Ps.71:5). Paul assures us that “…hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us”(Rom.5:5). The two disciples on the way to Emmaus thought hope had disappointed them when they expressed, “But we had ‘hoped’ that he was the one to redeem Israel…”(Lk.24:21).
We are losers when sin takes us away from the source of our hope. For those who forsake the Lord “will be written in the dust.”
However, the Lord in his mercy will not cast out anyone who comes to him (Jn.6:37). Therefore, do not let sin be engraved on the table of your heart “with an iron tool, inscribed with a flint point”(Jer.17:1). Return to the Lord and ask him to heal you and you will be healed.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, feed the fire of hope in me to keep burning till it is fulfilled in the Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
