“Let There Be Justice!”
(Ex.23:1-9).
It is a fait accompli that bribery and corruption are very regular customers along the corridors of some judiciary! Visit the prisons and other detention places and you will see people who are languishing there who do not know why they are there! Even the people who put them there do not know why they put them there; except that they are political or ideological rivals! Some times the people are incacerated simply because for political expediency and to please higher authority, a high authority must provide a scapegoat! Or because in a court somewhere a corrupt magistrate or judge has received bribe!
Unfortunately, any corrupt system does not grow overnight. Imagine in the home when a biological child does something wrong and lie that it was done by a non-biological child. When you take sides on the basis of your child’s word against the innocent, you are already corrupting both children who grow up knowing that it is not about who is right, but depending on who is connected to who is what makes it right! And so the innocent continue to suffer while the guilty enjoy! But God says, “I will not acquit the guilty!”
My friend, the Lord expects us not to spread false reports, not to bear false witness in lawsuits, not to pervet justice by siding with the crowd, not to favor a poor man in his lawsuit and to have nothing to do with a false charge that puts an innocent or honest person to death. Above all, not to accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.” The emphasis is on not accepting a bribe, because the corrupted are always there to offer bribe! Remain a righteous man and not accept the bribe.
Justice does not move alone. Justice has as boon companion called mercy. Mercy tampers justice! Acts of justice include: Being sure you take your enemy’s wandering animal back to him. And to help the person who hates you to lift up his donkey that has fallen down under a heavy load! Can you do it? If you cannot do it, then it is not only that the person hates you, but that you hate the person.
Prayer of the week: Lord Jesus Christ, in my daily interaction with other people, guide me on the path of justice, mercy and righteousness. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
