“Prepare Yourself For The Master’s Verdict!”
In the village it was common to see on some doorposts the words, “God’s case, no appeal!” God is the highest court, the highest point of justice and the chief judge of all judges. So too is his Son Jesus Christ.
Jesus tells us, “…apart from me you can do nothing” (Jn.15:5), meaning that he is of necessity the source of all our being and beingness.
Even so, Jesus does not claim self-sufficiency. He acknowledges: “By myself I can do nothing, I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me”(Jn.5:30).
As a judge who has been empowered by his Father, Jesus still does not see himself as a be all and end all. He relies on what he hears from the Father and that is why his judgment is just. Also he does seek to please himself.
Given the opportunity to sit in judgment of others, how just can your judgment be? In whatever you do, do you seek to please God or to please yourself?
A simple way to go is that before being decisive on the fate of another person, first consider what Jesus would have said or done if he was the one.
Besides, he is coming as a just judge whose judgment cannot be appealed against. You are either going to be discharged and acquitted or convicted, depending on what you did or are doing. Because “those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned”(Jn.5:29).
Therefore my friend, as you await the coming of Jesus Christ, be just in your judgment. Please God and not yourself. Be good, do good, keep being good and keep doing good!
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ I depend on you because by myself I can do nothing.Holy Spirit strengthen me so that I should be just in my judgment, and that in whatever I do I should please God and not myself. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
