“Invest Wisely; Jesus Christ Is Coming With Your Reward!”
In the parable of the ten Minas (Lk.19:11-27) Jesus tells the story of a man of noble birth who went to a distant land to be appointed king. Before leaving he called ten of his servants and gave them money. When he went some of his people who hated him sent a delegation to say they did not want him to be made king.
He was made king all the same. Upon his return some of the servants had invested and multiplied the money. Others kept it to give it back to him as he had given them on the grounds that he was a mean person, reaping where he did not sow.
The story is about how the king rewarded the servants and those who opposed him.
Historically the Herods went to Rome to be appointed rulers over the Jews. In the case of Archelaus and in other instances the Jews petitioned Rome that they didn’t want such or such to be their king. Upon their return after having been made king, such Herods had to deal with those who opposed their being made king.
Jesus used it as an analogy to talk about his kingship and second coming. The story was intended to quell those who thought that as he was entering Jerusalem “the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.” People are always like that.
In October 2017 some people thought by December 2017 we would have arrived Buea. Unfortunately, and typical of us the “Our March to Buea” has become just another empty slogan like “rigour and moral”, “Health for all by the year 2000” and you may want to add “Emergeñce 2035” etc!
My people sums it up by saying, “We thought by now you should be riding on an elephant, alas, you are not even riding on a dog!”
The parable reminds, teaches, educates, informs, alerts and warns us that nothing good comes easy! Just as the Herods went to Rome to be made king over the Jews, Jesus went up to heaven to be made king. Before leaving he promised us the Holy Spirit who has brought us various gifts bearing different kinds of fruits. Some invest by exploiting these gifts for their benefits and that of others. Some are so stingy to use the gifts that have been given them for free, even for themselves.
Others completely ignore or reject the kingship of Christ.
Christmas expectation reminds us of what will happen when Jesus Christ returns.
When Jesus returns, “those who seek spiritual gain in the gospel for themselves and others, will become richer, and those who neglect or squander what is given them will become impoverished, losing even what they have.” Meanwhile those who reject Christ outrightly will meet with eternal damnation!
My friend, the greatest challenge before you now is “When Christ comes, where would you belong?”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to invest and expand on my gifts for a greater reward when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
