“The Lord Will Reward Your Patience And Perseverance!”
The story is told that an eighty years old woman tailed a long queue to go and cast her first ever democratic vote in South Africa. A sympathizer told her she may be there for a few hours. The old woman replied that she had waited for eighty years just to cast that vote, so she wouldn’t mind waiting for a few more hours.
We see in this mother the embodiment of patience and perseverance without grumbling against those who deprived her of her franchise.
To grumble is to “complain about something in a bad-tempered way.” Patience is “persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” And perseverance is “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.”
To reach the finish line in this race of faith and avoid judgment, one must not grumble against each other. “The Judge is standing at the door!” In other words, the return of Christ is imminent! (Jm.5:9-11).
Faith in what we hope for must be complemented with patience and perseverance in the face of suffering. Our own Teke Elizabeth sings, “tie heart for this Christian race…”
There is a reward for those who are patient and particularly so for those who persevere in the face of suffering. The Lord who is full of compassion and mercy is also a rewarder! He will reward those who remain patient and perseverant in the face of suffering for their faith.
Weekend prayer: Lord of compassion and mercy revive in me the spirit of patience and perseverance in the face of suffering. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
