“Be A Good And Faithful Servant!”
The parable of the talents reveals that none of us is without a talent (gift) from God. Some are multi-talented and some have just one talent. However, God is an impartial Father who gives to “each according to his ability.”
The parable opens by saying the man “called his servants and entrusted his property to them.” He gave one servant five talents, another two talents and another one talent, making a total of eight talents. Eight talents could not be the only property a man with three servants could own.
The talents are the gifts we have received so as to further increase the property of the master. Whether you are given more talents than others or just one talent, God will evaluate each person’s work according to each one’s ability to develop, multiply and increase the talent(s) that the one received.
The core of the parable is contrasting between a “good and faithful servant” and a “wicked, lazy servant!”
While some develop and increase their talents, some out of some deepseated evil inclination prefer to bury theirs because they do not want to expand the master’s property.
God knows that we all have abilities, maybe not of the same level. Even if you have just one gift you can multiply it to become two and it keeps expanding.
God has entrusted his property (the world and its people) to us. He gives each of us some gift(s) which we should use for the general good. He expects each one of us to use the gift we have in building up the body of Christ – a world where love reigns supreme. A world free of evil, hatred and wickedness! If you fail to use the gift at your disposal, you give room for evil to multiply.
On the day of reckoning our reward shall depend on how we made use of what we received. Good management of what we have received is deserving of added responsibilities and a share of the master’s happinnes. But to the one who refuses to use the little he has positively, that little will be taken away and given to the person who has done much (Mtt.25:14-30).
According to the master such a person is a “wicked, lazy servant!” What he is not, which we often attribute to him is “envy.” He is not envious of the others. He is wicked and lazy and he fears to venture! He told the master, “… I was afraid…”
Dear friend, be bold and courageous, be industrious and assiduous in investing the gifts God has blessed you with for the common good. What you know and which is beneficial teach it to others. Don’t allow good ideas and inspirations buried within you. Spread it around let it empower others to the glory of God! Above all strive to be a good and faithful servant!
Prayer: Holy Spirit empower me to be a good and faithful servant and to use my talents to the benefit of the majority. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
“God’s Love!”
