“Follow Jesus Till The End!”
Some women were watching at a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there” (Mk.15:37-41).
The only reason why women are only beginning to have a voice in Christian circles is because patriarchy and male chauvinism relegated them to the background! None of the male disciples were present when Jesus was crucified. Not even Peter who had boasted that “Even if all fall away, I will not” (Mk.14:29).
But the women cited above saw it all as Jesus died; albeit from a distance. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses even saw where Joseph of Arimathea laid the body of Jesus (Mk.15:47). These two and Salome were the ones who first knew that Jesus had risen from the dead (1Mk.16:1-7). It was to Mary Magdalene that the risen Lord first appeared, and she was the first person to tell others about the risen Lord and that she had seen him; even though they did not believe her (Mk.16:9-11).
These women followed Jesus till the end. Following Jesus should not only be in good times, but in bad times as well.
When Jesus died “the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” thus giving forgiven humanity direct access into the presence of God Almighty.
My friend, while Jesus was alive these women follow him and cared for his needs and even in dead they went to anoint his corpse. They saw him die, they heard his final cry of anguish before giving up the ghost. They gave their time and all in following Jesus. They should be our role models in following Jesus Christ, especially as he has carried our sins away.
When we are forgiven we should devote our time to the Lord and he will reveal himself to us. Mary Magdalene was a known sinner from whom the Lord removed seven demons, yet it is to her that as risen Lord he first appeared! In Christ there is no class distinction!
Weekend prayer: Lord give us the grace to act like the women and follow you till the end in thought, word and deed. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
