“Bring Them All In!”
If the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) East of the Mungo is becoming a force to reckon with, it is thanks to the pioneering pastors who constituted the first presbytery. Resident pastors were based in Dschang, Bafoussam, Nkongsamba, Mbanga, Bonaberi, Bonamoussadi, Bastos, Ngaoundere and Etoug-Ebe (Nsimeyong). We recognise the others before the presbytery was created.
We remember this titbit of expansion history because the Presbyterial Secretary (PS) once told me what has remained with me since then.
The Rev. Dr. I. S. Elangwe told me, “George, our first task is to fish out all the anglophones who had backslided from when they crossed the Mungo bridge. After we have brought them in, that’s when we should consolidate by teaching them the core messages, doctrines and tenets which they may have forgotten. Our mission at the time was like going to the lost sheep of the children of Israel scattered in the diaspora.
I came to understand my PS better through the words of Jesus where he says “the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and selected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and seperate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace…” (Mtt.13:47-52). And just like Jesus asked the disciples, he is asking us now, “Have you understood all these things?” Surely it is a “Yes!”
The gospel is calling for all and sundry. Selection day is coming when the angels will do the work of selection. Our job is to bring everybody in. Seperation of the good and the bad is entirely the Lord’s business
Jesus says we should allow both the wheat and the weeds to grow together until harvest time when the weeds will be gathered, tied in bundles to be burnt and the wheat will be gathered and brought into the barn (Mtt.28-30; 40-41).
However, in the meantime as we keep bringing in, we should also consolidate with scriptural exposure so that we all may gain eternity. We are like nets. A net does not decide which fish to catch. Remember that as you click the share button you may be bringing one soul into the kingdom of heaven!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ continue to lead me to bring in the lost sheep and leave any selection in your hands. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
