“Be An Andrew To Someone Today!”
In the Gospel according to John, Jesus’ first two disciples were the disciples of John the Baptist. The Baptist saw Jesus passing by and he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” The two left and followed Jesus that they wanted to know where he was staying. Jesus told them, “Come and you will see.” One of them was Andrew. Andrew’s first action after this was to find his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah.”
So saying he brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at Simon and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas.” Cephas means rock (Jn.1:35-42).
Some take home lessons:
When we know who Jesus is, all old allegiances should be abandoned to follow him. For John the Baptist to identify Jesus as the Lamb of God was to portray him as a sacrificial animal. John was not jealous because his disciples abandoned him to follow his contemporary.
Whoever wants to know where Jesus is staying, he says, “Come and you will see.”
The example of Andrew is what we should emulate as those who have found the Messaiah: Go tell others and bring them to Jesus Christ.
Besides, Andrew was not jealous of his brother Simon when Jesus raised him from Simon to become the rock upon which he was to build his Church (Cf. Mtt.16:18). It is not so much about what or who you were before you were introduced to Christ. Never tell somebody you were nothing as if you yourself was sometthing. It has been commented that “In the Gospels Peter was anything but a rock; he was impulsive and unstable. In Acts, he was a pillar of the early Church. Jesus named him not for what he was but for what, by the grace of God he was to become.”
Yes, God in Christ Jesus takes us as we are not for what we are, but for what we are to become. Be an Andrew today by telling someone the goodnews you have found in the Lord. Each time you read any soothing word of God and it makes meaning to you, do not hesitate to click the share button.
Prayer: Holy Spirit inspire me to keep sharing the good news with others. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
