“God The Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit Bless You!”
Today Sunday after Pentecost Sunday is celebrated as Sunday of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is three persons in one God – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
In the Great Commission Jesus said, “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”(Mt.28:19).
Today we meditate on the trinitarian benediction which has since been a part of Christian worship. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all”(II Cor.13:14).
A story is told of three brothers each of whom had an extraordinary gift. One had the gift of seeing any part of the world that he decided upon. One had the gift to fly faster than the speed of light and sound. And the other one had the gift of instantaneous healing of any kind of disease. One day the brother with the gift of seeing everywhere saw that thier friend who was in a distant land was seriously ill. He told the other brothers. The man with the speed of light flew them to the place where the sick friend was and the healer healed him.
The three persons of the Godhead kind of function like the three brothers; watching and immediately coming to us when we stand in need. The only difference is that unlike the brothers the three persons of the Holy Trinity are not seperate entities.
When Paul was passing through some troubling times in his life Jesus told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”(II Cor.12:9a). It was love which caused God to give “his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”(Jn.3:16).
Jesus Christ promised that the Holy Spirit will be with us, keeping fellowship with us always for our good.
The Holy Spirit helps us to be united with Christ. Paul appeals, “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose…” And to nail it further he says, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus…”(Phi.2:1-5).
My friend, this is what we should be to each other as we receive and benefit from the trinitarian benediction.
Sunday prayer: Father give me the mind of Christ even as I enjoy your trinitarian blessing. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
