“Be A Fertile Soil For The Seed To Produce A Crop!”
The parable of the sower as Jesus interpreted it shows that you cannot expect a hundred percent conversion rate from the people you preach to. And while we agree that people are unresponsive to the message for different reasons, we cannot help but wonder why the sower was not careful enough to ensure that the seeds were not wasted along the paths, rocks and thorns. When the flock scatter in many directions we should be worried about the competence of the shepherd!
That notwithstanding the prophecy of Amos is truer today than it has been in any generation that there will be “a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. Men will stagger from sea to see…searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it”(Am. 8:11-12). Indeed, in this generation people are crisscrossing the globe in search of the Lord. Meanwhile the World Wide Web has given multiple means through which the word of God is being disseminated. But evil seems to be on the rise!
The word of God on the high side continues to fall on deaf ears. Materialism, greed and avarice and fleshly desires continue to stifle the word of God. Jesus ended the parable by stating, “But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop”(Lk 8:4-15).
Hebrews reminds that if you share in the heavenly calling, then “fix your thoughts on Jesus…” For us to remain strong in the faith we have to “encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of us should be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
We share in Christ only when we “hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.” That is why the reminder comes to you and I that “Today, if your hear God’s voice harden not your hearts…”(Heb. 3:1&6b-14).
Dear friend, to be a good seed is to have a noble and good heart, retain the word of God when you hear it, then persevere! Above all, fix your thoughts on Jesus and hold firmly to the end the confidence you had at first!
Prayer: Lord give me a heart that hold your word firmly to the end! Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
