“Take Up Your Cross And Follow Christ!”
One definition of mission is that we have to identify where and what God wants what to be done. We then accompany him there and do it for him – though with him. The difficult part of it is that those places where God goes are usually difficult terrains and what he wants to be done are often risky and life threatening.
That of course is another dimension of what Jesus means when he says “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” For it is of little good if one gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul. There is nothing one can give in exchange for one’s soul. Self-denial as a means of following Jesus Christ which ends at abnegation of personal pleasures and personal piety misses the dimension of suffering and sacrifice. Soldiers of Christ must be in the battlefield – the scene of action doing what Jesus Christ would have done if he was physically present!
When Jesus will come in glory as Lord, Judge and Rewarder “he will reward each person according to what he has done…”(Mtt.16:24-28).
My friend, what are you going to be rewarded for? The answer is between you and your God!
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me to deny self and follow Christ in word and deed. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
